Made It To Bahia Tortuga!

Good evening to you all.

This is a late nite update, as I know some of you are concerned about the storm and Marissa finding a secure anchorage. At right about 11:15pm, SoCal time this evening, Marissa passed thru the channel into Bahia Tortuga (Turtle Bay). We watched via a local AIS transceiver antenna, so could pretty much see minute by minute as they entered the Bay. Another American flagged cruising boat (a 70 ft. Trawler design Motor yacht named Halcyon) entered about an hour prior to Marissa, and I could see as they entered the Bay, just where the channel was. They motored across the wide bay and about 30 minutes after entering, apparently found a suitable spot to anchor and stopped forward motion. They are now about .6 miles North East of the town pier. Looks like they’ve found a good spot to rest a while. Winds in the anchorage are averaging about 16 knots from almost due West as Marissa settled to her anchor. For any of you who care about such things, their actual Lat/Lon location as I type this is 27 degrees, 41 minutes, 28.33 seconds North latitude, by 114 degrees, 53 minutes and 00.20 seconds West longitude. I watched for another 15 minutes or so, to be certain that they stayed on or near that same spot. During my voyages, I’ve been known to drop and raise anchor two or three times before I found a spot where I felt secure enough to spend the night. Sleep, on a breezy night, even when you are very tired, doesn’t come easy if you suspect that your ship’s anchor might be dragging. From the weather forecast models I have here, it still appears that the strongest winds in this current front, should pass over Turtle Bay late Monday evening. So I’d expect Shannon and Mike to hunker down there in that secure anchorage for at least a few days. Somehow Clayton’s email ID came off my list in the last few updates, so I have added him back on, I am also adding Del to our list as Sally sent me her email ID, and thanks to Clayton for Olivia’s ID tonight.

Good night to you all.
