Communications

Hello Everyone.

Communication with Shannon & Mike has been intermittent this week and I haven’t had an update since Thursday. As I write this, Marissa is still in Turtle Bay and as far as I know will leave for a small cove north of Magdalena Bay either this evening or early tomorrow morning (Sunday, 01/31/21). Will let you all know when I am sure they are underway. Bob & I have lost Marissa’s AIS signal but still see them on the PredictWind tracker. For anyone interested in following that, the link is: https://forecast.predictwind.com/tracking/display/Marissa…

When they are within range of an AIS receiving station Marissa can be followed on the Marine Traffic website also. Search for her by name Marissa Sailing Vessel [US] or by MMSI number 368066440. Please know email communication has been very spotty since Marissa left Ensenada. WiFi and internet isn’t always available and even when it is, sometimes the messages get to Shannon more than a day after originally sent. And attachments don’t seem to go through at all, so no pictures from them as yet. Also the old US cell phone numbers no longer work because both Mike and Shannon switched out the sim cards for Mexican numbers while in Ensenada. Also it’s better to send text messages than try to call. The boat is noisy and if Shannon & Mike are above while the phones are below deck, they won’t always hear the phone. Text messages can go to Shannon’s cell phone at this number: 011 52 646 341 2268. Again, if out of range the message may not be received or responded to right away. So what happens in an emergency? They do have on board a satellite phone from which they can successfully call out and be reached. I am not providing that number for two reasons: 1) it is for emergency use only and 2) cost is prohibitive for anyone calling them. Hope you all are staying safe and avoiding Covid-19. Will let you know when I know more about Marissa.
